UK Yankee ~ Americans in the UK
About Us

UK Yankee is the product of trying to fulfill a need. At the end of 1999, a site like this could not be found, and I wanted to help others, who like me, had questions to ask about this adventure. This was my therapy for the initial isolation and homesickness I felt.

This site has had a great response, in the first year it averaged 1000 hits per month, and just over 2000 hits per month in the second year. Now at the end of it's seventh(!) year, the hits are near 1,000,000 per month, with 10,000 pages served every day. The best part of it all has been getting together with fellow members in London, it was one of those fantastic experiences that I'll never forget. I have made some dear friends here.

I owe a lot of thanks to the coders at yabbforum.com and Boardmod.yabbforum.com who have provided the open source perl scripts that allowed me to create our first forum. You guys rock, especially Carsten for taking the time to give extra help with the map script. We currently use an even more powerful forum, SMF (Simple Machines Forum), which also has a fantastic dev/support team.

Most of all, a special thank you to my forum moderators who have also given so much of themselves to help our members, and make the forum a great place to "hang out", without them, our Charter Members and Google Adverstisers, this site would not be possible.

Site Designed and Hosted by Web Threads, that's me. ;-)
