US Taxes - Your US taxes and what you need to know

The author of this article, David McKeegan, is a director of www.GreenbackTaxServices.com, a US Income Tax provider that specializes in tax preparation for US expatriates. All information was correct at the time this article was written (February 2010).

You probably don’t spend much time thinking or worrying about your US tax obligations (at least I hope you don’t), but over the last few years the US government has been cracking down on tax cheats who are hiding money abroad. You probably read a bit about how the Swiss Banks are opening up their records to show the IRS who has been hiding money abroad and how the War on Terror has emphasized the need to stop money laundering. So what does all this mean for you, me and all the other honest hardworking Americans living abroad?

With swine flu spreading throughout the world and surrounded by media hype, some expats must wonder how they should deal with the ramifications of this epidemic sensibly. Cases are being reported in our children's schools and it is becoming clear that we will all likely have to deal with the uncertainty that surrounds being exposed to this virus. As expats, we wonder if we should cancel or postpone travel plans and how it might even affect immigration plans, as if this process wasn't stressful enough. Those who are vulnerable must cope with an even greater degree of uncertainty.
