Moving to the UK is more complicated than some people realize. It's not like moving to another U.S. state, where you can just pick up and go. There are many difficulties that people aren't prepared for.
It’s a common misconception that an American can just pick up and move to the UK just because they’d like to. This is entirely untrue, you need to qualify for a visa to move to the UK! Be sure to do your research before making plans, you may not qualify at all.
Despite the UK being an English speaking country, there ARE cultural differences and these are also relative to the community/region in which you're living, where you work, your family. You'll have to relearn to shop, cook, drive, etc. The easy questions on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire become the hardest because they are purely culturally based.
Some expats love it and some find that they hate it. Most go through mild to severe culture shock but some don't. Once people get past the initial "honeymoon" period of excitement and newness, feelings of homesickness, loneliness and frustration can set in. It can be very stressful at times and it isn't easy.

Hi, I am in a dillema, I met up with my long lost American love after 25 years, I moved to the USA for 8 months to see if I could settle there, but I could not, he lives in a place outside of the city of Pittsburgh, it is basically a dying area, but he was raised there and his family still live in the same street as him, I returned to the UK and it was his interntion to come to the UK to see if he could live hear, however , over the years he ignored how his child support payments were calculated, e.g they were calculated when he was in a high paying job, as a consequense he has built up arrears, even though he had custody of his daughter since she was 12, and has been paying regularly, over the years when he was in employment. He applied for a passport as his ran out in 1995, and was refused because of the back child support, he has tried to find out from the American child support agency how this arrears was calculated, but they just will not entertain giving any information, unfortunately he can not afford lawyers to fight this, so we are appart for the rest of our lives so it seems and he is a prisoner in his own country. Does anyone out there have any advise other than he pays it off, he hires a lawyer, because he just doesn't have the money, we feel that our lives are hopeless at the moment. Thankyou for reading my message. x
