UKY Advocacy Group

Advocacy is an important part of the democratic process. Advocates bring attention to alternative viewpoints of issues and have influenced government policy. UK-Yankee© is in the process of forming its own advocacy group dedicated to issues concerning United States expatriates in the United Kingdom.

In this guide, you will find information about UK-Yankee’s advocacy group. Basic information outlining general advocacy procedures is also included.

How We Started

The members of UK-Yankee have long been concerned with issues relating to immigration and citizenship. In March of 2007, the Home Office announced drastic fee increases for visas and the members felt compelled to take action. What began as a letter-writing campaign is growing into an advocacy group. Our group is made up of members who have volunteered to donate their time to take action with issues that affect Americans in the UK. Members are kept up to date with the group’s progress through the Advocacy Board and Advocacy Datebook.

Agenda

On 1 July 2007, UK-Yankee© adopted the Advocacy Agenda for 2007-2008. This agenda was formulated by internal consultation between 1 April 2007 and 9 June 2007. These are the issues closest to our hearts and the ones that have had the most impact on our members as a whole. The Advocacy Agenda, available on this wiki, is also available for download as a pdf file suitable for viewing or printing.
